Sugiyama argues that the Zhongjing zhuan za piyu 眾經撰雜譬喻 T208 ascribed to Kumārajīva (two fascicles) is different from the Za piyu jing in one fascicle 雜譬喻經一卷 比丘道略所集 recorded in the Chu sanzhang ji ji 出三藏記集 T2145. Both texts belong to the genre of 雜譬喻經, categorised among scriptures authored by saints from the western countries (西方諸聖賢所撰) in Jingtai's 靜泰 Zhongjing mulu 眾經目錄 T2148, and must to certain degree share similarities.

The Za piyu jing in one fascicle, which is now lost, is among eight Za piyu jing reported in T2145. These eight versions should also have been known to the author of the Jinglü yixiang 經律異相 T2121, composed in the same period. According to Jingtai, there was a Za piyu jing in one fascicle and ten sheets, which he ascribed to Kumārajīva, and held to have been compiled by Daolüe "雜譬喻經一卷十紙 後秦世羅什出道略集". Ten sheets is much shorter than the extant T208. There is no clear evidence whether Daolüe 道略, if it is a proper name, was foreign or Chinese.

Regarding internal evidence, there is one story from the *Mahāprajñāpāramitā-upadeśa 大智度論 T1509 present in both T208 and T2121, but T2121 names only T1509 as the source. According to Sugiyama, this shows that during the Liang 梁 period, this story existed only in T1509 [implying that T208 had not yet been composed --- LCW].
