Gautama Dharmajñāna, 瞿曇法智, 曇法智, 瞿曇達磨闍那, 達摩般若 fl. 582 See Funayama (2013): 94-95; Wang (1999/2005): 118-121. Radich, s.v. DDB: *Gautama Dharmajñāna, also written 瞿曇達磨闍那, 達摩般若, fl. ca. 582. The principal source about him is a biography appended to the biography of *Jinagupta/*Jñānagupta 闍那崛多 in the Xu gaoseng zhuan 續高僧傳, T2060:50.432c9 ff. He was a Brahman from Central India who was famed for his skill as a translator; his biography states that was so marvelously skilled in the local language [Chinese] that he translated for himself while holding the Indic text in his hands, and did not require an interpreter 妙善方言。執本自傳。不勞度語 T2060:50.434c19-20. He is ascribed with the translation of the Yebao chabie jing 業報差別經 (=佛為首迦長者說業報差別經 T80 in the present Taishō, though according to the Taishō apparatus, the phrase 為首迦長者 is missing from the title in Song, Yuan and Ming editions of the canon). His father was *(Gautama) Prajñāruci (瞿曇)般若流支, who was active in translation work under the N. Wei 北魏 and E. Wei 東魏, and his younger brother was Tanpi 曇皮, who is said to have been active as the actual translator 傳譯, 度語 in the teams of Narendrayaśas 那連提耶舍 and Vinītaruci 毘尼多流支. See Funayama (2013): 94-95.
