The Hwaeom gyeong mundap/ Huayan jing wenda 華嚴經問答 T1873 is a commentary on the Buddhāvataṃsaka, ascribed traditionally and in the Taishō to to Fazang 法藏 (643–712). However, Park writes that scholars since the 1990s have argued that it should be attributed to the Silla monk Uisang 義湘 (625–702). Park writes that Uisang (義湘, 625–702) lectured on the Buddhavataṃsaka (Huayan jing) for 90 days at Chudong 錐洞 in Mt. Sobaek 小白山. His disciple Jitong (智通, 655–?) compiled the content of these lectures into a two-fascicle Chudong gi 錐洞記 and distributed the resulting text. When Uicheon 義天 (1055–1101) wrote the Sinpyeon jejong gyojang chongnok 新編諸宗敎藏總錄 T2184, he mentioned that the circulating version 流通本 of Chudong gi 錐洞記 was in a crude style, mixed with Silla dialect 新羅方言. At the end of the Goryeo dynasty, Yi Jang-yong 李藏用 (1201–1272) produced an edited version, which is no longer extant. However, in Japan, a separate version of this text, the Hwaeom gyeong mundap 華嚴經問答 (traditionally attributed to Fazang 法藏) was transmitted, and recent research has shown that this text is an alternate recension 異本 of the Chudong gi. Plassen refers to studies by Ishii and Kim, which have challenged the traditional ascription of T1873 to Fazang 法藏, arguing instead that it was most probably by a Korean author.
