Felbur also argues that Sengrui had a very prominent or central role at the academy in Chang'an, and in one passage, even seems to speak of himself as taking up the task of "translator", 當傳寫之任 (Felbur's interpretation): 14. Felbur gives a list of ten prefaces (or postfaces) whose ascription to Sengrui is undisputed, three further prefaces ascribed to him "with various degrees of reliability", in addition to his Yuyi lun (or postfaces) that he regards as authored by Sengrui, in addition to his Yuyi lun 喻疑論 and seventeen remarks ascribed to him preserved in the Jingming jing jijie guanzhong shu 淨名經集解關中疏.
