[Hayashiya 1941]  Hayashiya Tomojirō 林屋友次郎. Kyōroku kenkyū 経録研究. Tokyo: Iwanami shoten, 1941. — 775-778, 788

A Tai zhong nü jing 胎中女經 is included in Dao'an's list of anonymous scriptures. Sengyou 僧祐 classifies it as a lost text in his time. However, Yancong’s Zhongjing mulu lists it, with the alternate title Fu zhong nü ting jing 腹中女聽經, as a text recited by Fahua 法化 in the S. Song 南齊 period. Hayashiya claims that probably this text is the same as the anonymous Tai zhong nü jing 胎中女經 shown by Dao'an. Hayashiya refers to his own work, Hayashiya 1945, Chapter 11 for further support and discussions. According to him, this text is extant in the Taishō as the Fu zhong nü ting jing 腹中女聽經 T563. LDSBJ 三寶記 and many catalogues that came after it, including KYL 開元錄, recorded this text as translated by *Dharmakṣema 曇無讖. Hayashiya claims that this ascription is wrong and the text is an anonymous scripture of the W. Jin 西晋 period. Again, he refers to his own Hayashiya 1945, Chapter 11 for detailed support.

[Balkwill 2016]  Balkwill, Stephanie. “The Sūtra on Transforming the Female Form: Unpacking an Early Medieval Chinese Buddhist Text.” Journal of Chinese Religions 44, no. 2 (2016): 127-148. — 133-135

Balkwill notes that in the Hôbôgirin Répértoire, the same Sanskrit title is given for T562, T563, T564, T565 and T566. She notes, however, that all five cannot possibly be a translation from the same source work, since they vary greatly in length. She suggests, rather, that they fall into three groups: T562 and T563 are variant versions of the same basic text; T565 and T566 are variant versions of the same text; and T564 is unique. [Balkwill herself goes on to show that the texts were not treated as five variant translations or versions of the same basic text in Fajing, nor in the "Buddha Names Sutra" T441, nor in the modern Taisho. Thus, it seems that for the case of T565 and T566, at least, her argument is only against HBGR, and only against what she feels is an identity between the texts implied by the application of the same reconstructed Sanskrit title to all five. However, she does note that Fajing, T441 and the Taisho all group T564 together with T562 and T563, which she shows clearly to be in error. See also separate note on T564. --- MR]

[Dao'an catalogue]  Dao'an 道安. Zongli zhongjing mulu 綜理衆經目錄.

Hayashiya examines Dao’an’s list of anonymous scriptures, as “recompiled” by Sengyou under the title 新集安公失譯經錄 at CSZJJ T2145 (LV) 16c7-18c2. The Tai zhong nü jing 胎中女經 is included in the section of the Dao'an/CSZJJ list for texts listed as “missing” 闕; Sengyou adds an interlinear note: 一名腹中女聽經或云阿羅呵公女腹中聽經; 18a17. Hayashiya gives, in tabulated form, information about the treatment of the same texts in Fajing T2146, LDSBJ T2034, the KYL T2154, and his own opinion about whether or not the text is extant in T, and if so, where (by vol. and page no.). The above text is identified by Hayashiya with the Fu zhong nü ting jing 腹中女聽經 T563, attributed in the present canon (T) to Dharmakṣema 曇無讖.
