[Ōno 1954]  Ōno Hōdō 大野法道. Daijō kai kyō no kenkyū 大乗戒経の研究. Tokyo: Risōsha 理想社, 1954. — 120-121

Pointing to information conveyed in CSZJJ and KYL, Ōno inclines to the belief that the *Vinaya-viniścaya 決定毘尼經 T325 (= Upāli-paripr̥cchā) dates to the E. Jin, probably to the latter part of that period.

Ōno also points out that the , ascribed to “the Dunhuang Trepiṭaka” 燉煌三藏 [usually taken to mean Dharmarakṣa --- MR] was widely used in other scriptures. For example, it is reused as the Upāliparipṛcchā 優婆離會 T310(24) in the Ratnakūṭa of Bodhiruci. It also became the first "introduction" chapter 第一序品 of the Pusa shan jie jing 菩薩善戒經 in nine juan, T1582, one section 一節 of which is in turn quoted in the Dasheng xiuxing pusa xing men zhu jing yaoji 大乗修行菩薩行門諸經要集 T847 ascribed to Zhiyan 智嚴 (of the Tang).

The rite for contrition before the thirty-five Buddhas 三十五佛懺悔法 of T325 was valued particularly highly in China, as it was an important source in the development of the Guan Xukongzang pusa jing 觀虛空藏菩薩經 T409. Furthermore, two versions of a text entitled Sanshiwu Fo ming jing 三十五佛名經 were produced on the basis of the 三十五佛懺悔法:

1) A scripture recorded in the section of anonymous extant scriptures of CSZJJ as the Sanshiwu Fo ming jing in one fascicle, 三十五佛名經一巻 出決定毘尼經, which is an excerpt scripture of the names of the Buddhas from Śākyamuni 釈迦牟尼佛 to Lianhuaguang shanzhu shaluoshu wang Fo 蓮華光善住沙羅樹王佛. Ōno points out that this text exists in the Hou zai za lu 後載雜錄 of the Korean and Song editions of the Guan Xukongzang pusa jing 觀虛空藏菩薩經 (Ōno states that he made this point already in the fourth section of Chapter One, Part One of the same book).

2) the extant Sanshiwu Fo ming lichan wen 三十五佛名禮懺文 T326 in one juan ascribed to Amoghavajra 不空. The note 出烏波離所問經 added to the title is an alternate title 異名 used in India [sic!]. Ōno states that he will discuss this text later in the same book (Chapter 16 of Part Two).

Williams argues that the Upali-paripr̥cchā T325 was most likely translated by *Dharmakṣema, not Dharmarakṣa. His grounds are as follows: Sengyou states in CSZJJ that the text was translated in the Liangzhou region under the Jin. The translation uses the term chanhui 懺悔, not huiguo 悔過, which Williams regards as having probably been coined around 400 CE.

[Bie lu (DH mss)]  "Liu Song" Zhongjing bie lu 劉宋眾經別錄, S.2872, P.3747. Dating complex and unclear.

In the "Liu Song" Zhongjing bie lu 劉宋眾經別錄, as represented by a Dunhuang manuscript fragment, P.3747, are listed the following titles corresponding to extant texts by Dharmarakṣa (titles in the DH mss. Bie lu are identified by the numbering given to the manuscripts in Tan 1991): T170 = Tan#3, T199 = Tan#53; possibly T222 = Tan#20 (the title given is 小品經), T310(3) = Tan#78, T317 = Tan#52, T323 = Tan#6, T324 = Tan#4, probably part of T325 = Tan#31, T338 = Tan#8, T433 = Tan#51, T460 = Tan#1 (title missing, but ms. here can be reconstructed on the basis of comparison with CSZJJ); T534 = Tan#9, T567 = Tan#11, T569 = Tan#50, T589 = Tan#10, T811 = Tan#7, T812 = Tan#2, T817 = Tan#5.

In addition, the Bie lu features interlinear notes following the following titles, directly identifying Dharmarakṣa as the translator of the text(s) in question, and/or giving dates and other circumstances of translation. These notes largely correspond verbatim to similar notes given for various parts of the Dhr corpus in CSZJJ, either in Sengyou's own interlinear notes, or, in a couple of cases, in independent documents relating to the texts in question: T460 = Tan#1 (see T2145 [LV] 51b8-13); T567 = Tan#10 (CSZJJ 50b6-10); T222? = Tan#20 (CSZJJ 9b28-c4). An open question is whether such notes in the Bie lu are meant to apply only to the single title that they follow, or to groups of titles (and if they apply to groups of titles, how many titles are covered by each single note).

A slightly more complex case is T638 = Tan#62, where an interlinear note already gives the information (carried elsewhere too) that the text was produced by Dharmarakṣa and then revised by Nie Chengyuan, This information corresponds closely in wording to CSZJJ 9c6-8.

Dating of this Bie lu is a complex matter; see other CBC@ entries directly on these DH manuscript witnesses, citations in later catalogues etc.
