Translated by Yao Changshou 姚长寿.

Saitō argues that it is "extremely probable" that the Yan dao su ye jing T820 was translated by Zhi Qian, not Shengjian 聖堅 (as in the received ascription), primarily because it contains rhyming verse, which he says is characteristic of Zhi QIan's other works but not Shengjian's. Zhi QIan was said in catalogues to also have translated a version of the text, but that version was thought lost by the time of KYL. The attribution of T820 to Shenjian first appears in Fajing. At pp. 76-79 Saitō also provides a convenient list of all rhyming verses in texts from T1 to T1692.

As part of a larger series of studies of rhyming verse in Chinese Buddhist texts (especially but not exclusively translation texts), Saitō argues that because it contains such verse, which is unusual, the Yan su dao ye jing T820 is in fact by Zhi Qian. However, for details, Saitō actually refers readers to his own earlier study (Saitō 2000).

Tokyo: Sakaino Kōyō Hakushi Ikō Kankōkai, 1935. — 96-98

CSZJJ ascribes only the *Ākāśagarbha-sūtra 虛空藏經 [not extant] to Shengjian 聖堅. Very few biographical details about Shengjian are known. LDSBJ ascribes fourteen texts to him, including the *Ākāśagarbha-sūtra. Sakaino rejects all of those ascriptions except the *Ākāśagarbha-sūtra, pointing out that nine of these ascriptions were simply imported holus-bolus from certain lists of anonymous scriptures in CSZJJ. This is part of a larger pattern that Sakaino points out in Fei’s treatment of scriptures regarded as anonymous by Sengyou, which altogether affects a large number of ascriptions still carried in the present canon.

[Dao'an ???]  Dao'an, catalogue of anonymous scriptures = 新集安公失譯經錄 (as reported by Sengyou in CSZJJ) — T2145 (LV) 17a7

In Sengyou's new collation of Dao'an's catalogue of anonymous texts, he lists the following title, with his own interlinear note:

[This information corresponds closely to the title of T820, which in T is currently ascribed to Shengjian 聖堅. However, because Shengjian was active after Dao'an's death, the ascription of this title to Shengjian (presuming the notice refers to the same text) is anachronistic---- MR].

[Dao'an catalogue]  Dao'an 道安.
Tokyo: Tōyō bunko, 1945. — 459

Hayashiya examines Dao’an’s list of anonymous scriptures, as “recompiled” by Sengyou under the title 新集安公失譯經錄 at CSZJJ T2145 (LV) 16c7-18c2. The Yan dao su jing 演道俗經 is included in the section of the Dao'an/CSZJJ list for texts listed as extant 有; Sengyou adds an interlinear note: 舊錄云演道俗業經; 17a7. Hayashiya gives, in tabulated form, information about the treatment of the same texts in Fajing T2146, LDSBJ T2034, the KYL T2154, and his own opinion about whether or not the text is extant in T, and if so, where (by vol. and page no.). The above text is identified by Hayashiya with the Yan dao suye jing T820, attributed in the present canon (T) to Sheng Jian 聖堅.
