— T2145:55.12c19-13a8

Fayong and Puti are said to have assisted Baoyun 寶雲 in the actual translation work of a group of texts ascribed to Guṇabhadra 求那跋陀羅 during the reign of 文帝 of the Liu Song dynasty (424-453). Extant texts in that list (as named by Sengyou): Guoqu xianzai yinguo jing 過去現在因果 T189; the (Mahāyāna) Aṅgulimālīya-sūtra 央掘魔 T120; the Saṃdhinirmocana-sūtra 相續解脫波羅蜜了義 T679; the Saṃyuktāgama 雜阿鋡 T99; the *Mahābherīhāraka-sūtra 大法鼓經 T270; the Śrīmālādevīsiṃhanāda 勝鬘經 T353; and the Laṅkāvatāra-sūtra 楞伽阿跋多羅寶經 T670.

“Zō agon kyō no kenkyū to shuppan 『雑阿含経』の研究と出版.”

T99 , as transmitted and presented in the Taishō, for instance, has been jumbled; further, two juan were lost at some point, and in the present juan 23 and 25, the loss had been made up by interpolating material from an Aśokāvadāna. The wording of these interpolations differs from extant Chinese versions of the Aśokāvadāna, showing that they must have been taken from some alternate, lost source. Hanayama 花山 proposed that this lost source was a text entitled Wuyou wang jing 無憂王經 ascribed to Guṇabhadra [for which see Chu sanzang ji ji T2145:55.13a4]. These interpolations must already have been made by the early sixth century, since Sengyou's 僧祐 Shijia pu 釋迦譜 preserves quotations from them, with the identification of the source as the "Saṃyuktāgama", as does the Jing lü yi xiang 經律異相 T2121. The evidence of the Jing lü yi xiang, moreover, shows that the text had also already become jumbled by this point, since it cites the juan numbers of the disordered version. Further, the Chu sanzang ji ji T2145 also gives titles of "excerpted sūtras" 抄經, featuring material from these Aśokāvadāna sections, for which it also gives the "Saṃyuktāgama" as the source. Strangely enough, in fact, according to Mizuno, this is in fact the only source from which the Chu sanzang ji ji has material from the Aśokāvadāna, even though the other canonical versions of the text existed by the Liang: four texts are listed,

Mizuno summarises a history of scholarship by Anesaki 姉崎, Kajio 梶尾, Maeda 前田, Hanayama 花山, Lü Cheng 呂澂 and Yinshun 印順 attempting to restore T99 to its original order, on the basis of comparison with the (anonymous) "alternate" Saṃyuktāgama 別譯雜阿含經 T100, the exposition of “sūtras” 契經 presented in juans 85-98 of the Yogācārabhūmi, and other sources in the Kṣudrakavastu of the Mūlasarvāstivāda-vinaya and other Vinaya materials.

[Kawano 2006]  Kawano Satoshi 河野訓. Shoki kan'yaku butten no kenkyū: Jiku Hōgo o chūshin to shite Ise: Kōgakkan Daigaku Shuppanbu, 2006. — 83, 91 n. 17, referring to CSZJJ T2145 (LV) 12c19-13a8

Kawano points out that in CSZJJ, dates of translation are given for T99 and T189, ascribed to Guṇabhadra, corpus in the Song(-Yuan-Ming) line of transmission only (as witnessed by the Taishō apparatus), but not in the Korean, which forms the base edition for the Taishō. This pattern is similar to that observed, but on a much larger scale, for works ascribed to Dharmarakṣa; and for eight works ascribed to *Dharmakṣema .

[Bie lu (DH mss)]  "Liu Song" Zhongjing bie lu 劉宋眾經別錄, S.2872, P.3747. Dating complex and unclear.

In the "Liu Song" Zhongjing bie lu 劉宋眾經別錄, as represented by a Dunhuang manuscript fragment, P.3747, the following titles are listed, which may correspond to extant texts (in some cases, identification is rather tentative). In contrast to some other titles, which are treated in separate CBC@ entries, these titles are listed in the Bie lu without any further accompanying information (e.g. about ascription or date). Note that the Bie lu includes interlinear notes giving such information, and the scope of application of those interlinear notes is sometimes uncertain: it can be hard to tell whether they apply only to the single title preceding the note, or to a group of titles leading up to the note; and if they apply to a group of titles, how many. Titles in the DH ms. Bie lu are identified by the numbering in Tan (1991), given at the beginning of each line.

Many of these same titles are treated as anonymous and extant in CSZJJ fascicle 4. The same is also true of a number of titles not listed here, because the texts in question appear not to be extant.

Texts presently ascribed to Dharmarakṣa and to Zhi Qian (excepting T361) are excluded from this entry, because they are treated in other CBC@ entries.
